You use the shark bite fittings from the outlets on the pump just wondering if the rest of the pvc piping is just push fitted or is it glued together

What grain are you using to get over 82% efficiency? I’ve never seen a barley malt that was over 82% extract.

There will be losses from the following:

    1. grain absorbing water
    2. equipment (kettle deadspace, hopback losses, counterflow chiller losses, etc)
    3. evaporation during boiling of the wort (15% per hour is rough estimate)
     4. fermentation losses from hops and trub

I usually start with approx 25 litres at the start of boiling and transfer 19 litres to my keg after fermentationa/conditioning is complete. Hope this helps.

Anybody know what kind of heat controller that is?

  13. REGreenTeam says:

Hey Billy. Great video! You said that you started out with 4.75 gal of styke water in the brew kettle. The you mashed out with 4 gallons. What was your finshed batch size going into the fermenter. It sounds like 4.75+4= 8.75. Did I understand correctly? Thanks. You RIMS brew rig is nice. Thanks!

    3. You stated “HAD” is it now gone??
Where can I get one ?
I have a propane system now and want to convert to an electric controlled system but what to make something that has been tested and working for a while. Need plans got any???

Thanks for all your help in advance, keep brewing :P

  20. emoneyblue says:

    Question Billy,
How much is it to build or buy a complete heat stick and controller? just that part of your system? in American dollars? lol :P

Thanks, I love the videos. keep um coming …

  21. WaterBarleyHopsYeast says:

Nice setup! Where did you get that controller?

Do you have any trouble with wort burning on your heat element?

  22. MTEXX2 says:

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been searching proof of concept for a heat stick-in-a tube for recirc, step mashing, mash out etc. Looks like it works!

  23. NorthTexasHorn says:

Man this video makes me sick…I wish I could build one of those. Great setup!

  24. billyd44444 says:

HI, and thank you. I “batch sparge” and I get 80% to 82% efficiency.RIMS systems can get a higher efficiency.

  25. res09xnh says:

So how come you don’t sparge? Are you a no sparge brewer or is that common with RIMS systems?
    Awesome set btw!
