Yesterday I discovered the true meaning of Yorkshire grit at The Fishermans, easily the prettiest pub in Bingley, I'll take your word for it Raptor. As I climbed the ramparts leading to the side terrace I was greeted by a hoard of savage Yorkshiremen, with a token Liverpudlian thrown in for for good measure. Shaking with fear I thought they were there to defend the pub but not so. Their only interest was to ensure my safe passage through the barbaric county of Yorkshire and to advise me of the protocol to be observed in the environs of The Fishermans where service comes at a price. This stood me in good stead as I was able to procure a meat pie and shandy, paid for on the spot or it would never get to the terrace, house rules! Meanwhile, Rob, the local wiseman kept a tight reign on my dog, Cleo, who's presence might have got us barred had the landlord, Bob, a migrant from Doncaster, not been such a convivial fellow. As night fell and the temerature dropped, Bob niftily wound up the canopy and a client in the know, possibly a local aristocrat, kept control of the 2 minute timer which lit 2 of the 4 burners on the patio heater. Pleased to see that Bob has taken the Government's Global Warming warnings seriously. A little re-alignment of the assembled to take advantage of the 2 radiant bars created a tableau of glowing, happy faces, duly grateful for their hosts consideration for their well being. Well lads your fighting spirit and triumph over adversity, and loyalty to The Fisherman's is a true example of what is meant by Yorkshire Grit. Have one for me, and get one for Bob, it was great meeting all of you. Judy Ward and Cleo the dog from hell, aka Mansfield

Easily the prettiest pub in Bingley. Situated by the canal and a great draw during the summer. But BEWARE! The landlord (Bob) is averse to customer service. Usually drunk and invariably rude, I thought Bob was destined for Hell. However, when I then met his wife, I knew he was already there!

never read so much rubbish sounds like your bitter and twisted the food is as good a pub food as you will get not the cheapest the staff were ok when we were there it was as busy so they didnt have time to chat but they were efficient we were asked if we wanted to pay now or go on a tab if we were going outside we had to pay now as people have left in the past without paying (fair enough) as were inside we went on a tab the ten of us ate and had drinks for £80 boaters up and down the canal recommended the pub and it wasnt disapointing so of the locals were very friendly although some had issues i suggest overall not the best pub ive ever been in but certainly by far not the worst8/10 i feel this is a true review by some one who actually went in to the pub not someone with issues that person needs to get real

The Fishermans has a lot of potential but sadly lives up to none of it. The food is terrible and the customer service even worse. If more than 4 of you go and want to move a table to sit together you get Bob complaining about the inconvenience. You would of thought he would of been glad of the customers. With a new office block next door Bob ought to be going out of his way to make people feel welcome, but I'm assured by a friend who works there that only a limited few will eat at The Fishermans and most prefer to drive to less convenient but more customer service-orientated local pubs. So yes, Merlin this is also a true review of someone who has been in the pub, several times infact to see if it has improved any - it hasn't!

Food too expensive for what it is and the price of a drink is more than you'd have to pay in a major city centre!!! I'd even overlook that if the service was even acceptable but the landlord seems to strive to be as objectionable as possible. Every thing seems to have a price even a glass of tap water (60p! even if you’ve bought food and drink) An extra plate to put some food on for my 15 month old child causes chaos and mutterings of there should be a charge. Avoid this pub at all costs. There is no reason to go in as the food is bad the drinks expensive and the reception and customer service you receive possibly the most surly and unhelpful you will come across!

actually the drinks at the fishermans are pretty much in line with a the area although bitter a little expensive i can only suggest if it takes several times do decide you dont like it you dont know what you like as you say there are lots of other pubs in the area the food is not the worst food in the area and it certainly isnt terrible but there are room for improvement the prices are on the menu so they can be seen before you order and by law there is a price tarrif displayed

iam a member of staff at the fishermans so i thought i would like to add my review having worked at the pub for over 10 years i can confirm that the pub is clean tidy ,and well presented with both inside and out taken into consideration in the summer hanging baskets which are of the highest quality aswell as flower boxes and the general upkeep of the pub outside .on the inside it is always clean ,tidy and kept in good order and i would suggest they are generally the cleanest ladies toilets of any pub in the area, although hot water does take a long time to get to but is there, this is due to the older boiler system.the food is as good as any where in the pub food trade and unlike many 90%is GENUINELY HOME MADE ON SITE and is all cooked to order if there is a problem with food at busy periods it can take quite a while but generally this is told to the customer when ordering then its upto them but the fact it is busy for food speaks for itself for those who say its not that good well the answer is there !.beer pricing is as a previous reviewer says displayed in public and are generally inkeeping with the local area as many other pubs in the area are part of the same group ENTERPRISE they have to get there beer from them so ? if you are drinking on price can i recommend JD wetherspoons etc etc lower price sometimes means lower life forms too you might meet some in there BUT NOT IN ALL CASES the fishermans is in no way perfect sadly when the public is involved everyone has different ideas as to what they want if we had to please everyone it would be impossible a prime example is the smoking shelter , this was installed by bob at quite a big expense to SMOKE IN it is there for that purpose and the heaters stay on generally long enough for a cigarette to be smoked ,but it is not and never was intended for people to use as they put it to protest against the smoking ban and sit outside in all weathers or to sit outside for other reasons too numerous to mention BUT YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!aswell as food and drink the pub also provides ,darts ,doms ,cards all this provided by the pub and tv although not sky . which as every other pub without sky knows means there is not a lot of sport available . i would like to think that staff are generally polite ,talkative and attentive and as the staff do get there fair share of tips this seams to be the case and people do 99%of the time get served in time and in order although like everywhere else its not always the case ,but as staff often stop back after work and mingle with regulars again that speaks for itself dogs, prams and push chairs sadly these are not allowed in due to the size of the pub we have had to unfortunately not allow pushchairs because we have has 2/3 occasions when we have had several push chairs at once and we have not got space and if someone should fall over one i dont fancy giving evidence at court whilst someone is sueing you for your house or your baby . and dogs on at least one accasion we have had a dog bite someone and it wasnt a child (not the dog the person)we do allow dogs on a lead in the beer garden the lanlord bob is the longest serving landlord in the area END OF so he must be doing 1or 2 things right he does have his moments as we all do but he does recieve a lot of negativity and probably 90% of the stories are nonesencicle urban myths at best the other 5%rubbish with 5% truth . to summarise . the fishermans is clean tidy there is never if very little trouble ever the food is ok the beer is a good pint 98%of the time the staff are ok the srevice is ok the surroundings are nice if you are drinking and eating on price please we are not the cheapest but there are other options the regulare are generally friendly ??lol if you want to place your own review dont take my word for it come down (although beware of prices) and then place yor own review but some of the reviews placed here are nonsense although not all but they are an insult to the people who eat and drink at the pub regularly of them there are plenty thankyou for reading the inside review

ps i forgot to say a glass of water is only 37p and this is only charged if you are having that instead of a drink {we do sell bottled water )and remember the glass has to be washed not to mention ice , lemon , staff serving you and finally for now we actually do very well from all the offices in the area but especially the biggest 1 the average monthly spend being £12/1400 thanks again TTFN

Pros - nice location, friendly locals, nice burgers, whitby haddock is gorgeous!! Guest ales trying to support local economy, locally sourced meat and veg Cons - landlord needs to learn customer service, bit pricey, specials not really very special, boring menu, charge for water, toilets a bit dingey (but clean)

Went in for a nice meal with my husband. Was treated awful by the landlord who was clearly drunk or had a drink that night. Even the chef seems to hate him as i over herd him calling a moaning old Pric* after he had finished his duties to one of the locals. We were astounded but quite amused.

oh forgot to mention. The chap on the bar lez i think the locals called him more then made up for for the bad behaviour of the landlord he was kind, polite and is the only GOOD thing at the fishermans.
